Hilton has made an optional clean energy design available for new Home2 Suites hotels in the US, targeting lower utility bills and operational carbon emissions for owners and developers. Announced on 22 September 2026, the prototype combines all-electric systems, renewable energy and more efficient building technology.
The company said modelling across 13 U.S. cities indicated potential annual energy cost reductions of 18–40% compared with a traditional Home2 Suites prototype. The package is available now and is not a mandatory design requirement for the brand’s new hotels.
Hilton linked the launch to pressure on hotel operating expenses and changing energy markets. It cited American Hotel & Lodging Association figures showing that U.S. hotel utility costs have risen 28% over the past five years.
Modelled savings underpin the owner proposition
The design uses renewable energy generated both on site and off site, alongside an enhanced building envelope and all-electric equipment. Hilton described it as its first widely available prototype designed for zero operational emissions and its most energy-efficient hotel design package.
Alongside the projected cost savings, the modelling indicated a 30% improvement in energy efficiency and a reduction in operational carbon emissions of 440 metric tons. Hilton also said the design could support higher property valuations and stronger returns over a hotel’s life.
Those projections depend on market conditions and use a traditional Home2 Suites prototype supplied by sources such as natural gas or non-renewable grid electricity as the comparison. The figures are modelling results rather than reported operating performance from completed hotels.
Jean Garris Hand, Hilton’s vice president and global head of Sustainability & Responsible Business, said many owners operate small businesses and are seeking practical ways to reduce energy expenditure. She said the prototype was intended to connect environmental improvements with long-term business value.
Home2 Suites provides a platform for wider adoption
Hilton said the offering aligns with the World Green Building Council’s zero operational emissions building requirements and forms part of its Travel with Purpose strategy. The company operates more than 9,400 hotels worldwide.
The new option builds on efficiency features already incorporated into Home2 Suites designs, including energy-efficient roofing materials, water-conscious landscaping, ENERGY STAR-rated appliances and LED lighting. Other existing features include saline pools and reusable dishware.
According to Hilton, Home2 Suites has the largest hotel brand development pipeline in the U.S., giving it scope to introduce the design more widely. Brand leader Talene Staab said the optional prototype extends its approach to flexible design and operational efficiency while retaining the experience expected by extended-stay guests.
Energy procurement support continues to expand
Hilton is also expanding the energy procurement programme run by Hilton Supply Management. The programme helps participating hotels manage costs, improve budget predictability and assess renewable or lower-carbon energy options where they are available.
The company said the programme helped participating owners save approximately 17% on energy costs in 2025 and avoid more than 102,130 metric tons of CO₂. Beyond the new-build Home2 Suites option, Hilton said it would continue examining how these solutions could be applied across different markets, operating environments and owner requirements.
