Hilton has announced the opening of Skáld Akureyri, Curio Collection by Hilton, on Hafnarstræti in Akureyri, North Iceland. The property has 71 guest rooms and 15 serviced apartments, and the company’s accompanying FAQ records its first guests arriving on June 26, 2026.

The opening expands Hilton’s presence in Iceland and adds to its European lifestyle portfolio, according to the company. Alongside hotel accommodation, the property combines apartments with kitchens, a Nordic restaurant and rooftop spaces intended for dining, drinks and events.

A literary concept across rooms and apartments

The hotel’s name refers to Iceland’s poets and storytellers, with literary references incorporated into its interiors alongside handcrafted Nordic materials and commissioned artwork. Hilton said the concept draws on Icelandic storytelling, local culture and contemporary Nordic design.

Its serviced apartments include fully equipped kitchens, living areas and private balconies. The accommodation mix sits within a property that Hilton says is intended to welcome both international travellers and local guests.

General manager Magnea Þórey Hjálmarsdóttir said the hotel had been conceived around its connection to Akureyri, Icelandic poetry and the surrounding landscape. She described literature, design, food and hospitality as the main elements of its approach.

Nordic dining and rooftop event spaces

The restaurant, Abba-labba-lá, serves contemporary Nordic food using locally sourced Icelandic ingredients, with an emphasis on seasonality, according to Hilton. The property also has a fitness centre and two rooftop terraces overlooking the town, fjord and surrounding landscape.

Those terraces provide space for dining, drinks and events in addition to the hotel’s accommodation offer. Hilton positions the property as a base for visiting Akureyri and the Diamond Circle, as well as for whale watching, skiing and experiencing the midnight sun and Northern lights.

The hotel is a three-minute walk from Akureyri town centre, with the waterfront, shops, restaurants and cultural attractions nearby. Guests arriving by car can use on-site parking for a fee.

European portfolio and Hilton booking channels

David Kelly, Hilton’s senior vice president for Continental Europe, linked the opening to the growth of its European lifestyle portfolio. He said demand for locally inspired stays was rising and described Skáld Akureyri as an expansion of Hilton’s Icelandic presence.

According to Hilton, Akureyri can be reached from Reykjavík by a 40-minute domestic flight or a four-and-a-half-hour drive along the Ring Road. The company also said Akureyri Airport has a growing network of direct international and seasonal connections.

Bookings are available through Hilton, and the property participates in Hilton Honors. Members booking through eligible direct channels receive benefits including member discounts and standard Wi-Fi, with digital check-in, room selection and Digital Key available subject to the programme’s stated availability conditions.
