Hilton announced the opening of Montara Hotel in Heredia, Costa Rica, on 24 September 2026, establishing Tapestry Collection by Hilton’s first presence in both the country and Central America. The 97-room mountain retreat has been refurbished to join the lifestyle brand while retaining its local identity, according to the company.

The opening extends Hilton’s lifestyle portfolio in the Caribbean and Latin America, where it says it operates 315 hotels and resorts across more than 35 countries and territories. Its regional development pipeline comprises 150 properties.

For operators, Montara brings together accommodation, wellness, food and beverage, and group events within an established retreat. Its facilities include a 13,200-square-foot spa, four dining and drinks concepts, and approximately 12,700 square feet of event space and gathering areas.

Overlooking the Central Valley, Montara occupies approximately 540,000 square feet of grounds, with more than 130,000 square feet of built facilities. Its accommodation includes 38 suites, while room features include private balconies and firepits.

The interiors use wood finishes and natural textures, with windows looking towards mountains, gardens and private lakes. Art commissioned for the property includes work by Costa Rican artists Mario Maffioli, a National Painting Award recipient, and Fabio Herrera, whose work is represented in New York’s Museum of Modern Art collection.

Maxime Verstraete, Hilton’s vice president of brand management for the Caribbean and Latin America, linked Tapestry Collection’s regional growth to demand for locally distinctive hotels. He said travellers wanted closer connections with the communities they visit alongside the consistency of a global hospitality brand.

Dining, wellness and events shape the offer

Bosco, the hotel’s signature restaurant, combines seasonal Costa Rican produce with international influences and sources from farmers, artisans and producers in Heredia and neighbouring communities. An on-site organic garden provides herbs and seasonal vegetables.

Chef Regis Molina leads Santoro, a fine-dining steakhouse with an open kitchen and fire-based cooking. The other outlets are the 1998 Lobby Bar, serving cocktails and other drinks, and a juice bar near the pool and fitness facilities.

The spa offers hydrotherapy, facial therapies, relaxation treatments and holistic practices, supported by specialists with more than 20 years of experience, according to Hilton. Outdoor decks, meditation areas and private nature trails complement those services.

Event facilities cater for corporate retreats, social gatherings, celebrations and weddings. Hilton said the hotel’s outdoor settings, dining offer and wellness facilities allow events to be tailored to different occasions.

Operating plans and access to Hilton’s network

Hilton said Montara’s design and operating plans incorporate solar panels for on-site consumption, 100% LED lighting, and electric maintenance and landscaping equipment. They also include rainwater collection, a wastewater treatment plant designed to enable irrigation reuse, and hydration stations intended to remove the need for single-use plastics.

The property is approximately 13 miles (20 kilometres) from Juan Santamaria International Airport and downtown San Jose. Nearby visitor destinations include Braulio Carrillo National Park, Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens.

Tapestry Collection sits within Hilton’s Lifestyle portfolio alongside Curio Collection and Outset Collection. Montara also participates in Hilton Honors, giving members who book directly access to benefits including member discounts, free standard Wi-Fi and bookings combining Points and money.
