Subway launches US Halloween giveaway of $15 digital gift cards

The promotion runs from Oct. 12 through 16, linking Subway’s new advertising platform to a company-commissioned survey about Americans’ dissatisfaction with lunch.

Online Franchise Chronicle · 10/12/2026

Subway announced a US Halloween promotion on Oct. 12, 2026, offering consumers the chance to win $15 digital gift cards by sharing disappointing lunch experiences at LunchtimeHorrors.com. The giveaway runs from Oct. 12 through 16 and extends the company’s Feed Your SUBconscious advertising platform, launched in September.

The promotion has 5 entry periods, with 1,000 gift cards available to win in each period, according to Subway’s terms. Although the company is promoting the offer as a Footlong giveaway, the prizes are $15 eGift cards that recipients can put towards a sandwich purchase.

Advertising fund sponsors the promotion

Subway Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust Ltd is the named sponsor, placing the giveaway within the brand’s advertising activity. The campaign combines an online entry site with gift-card prizes, while using stories about meals bought elsewhere as its central theme.

Entry requires no purchase and is limited to legal residents of the 50 US/DC aged 18 or older, with the offer void where prohibited by law. Subway directs entrants to the official rules for entry instructions, individual entry-period dates, prize details and restrictions.

Survey underpins the lunch-regret message

The campaign draws on a Subway-commissioned survey in which 66% of U.S. adults said they at least sometimes regretted their lunch choice. The findings give the promotion its focus on dissatisfaction with the food consumers select and the money they spend.

Among the reasons reported, 34% said their meal had not filled them up, while 28% said it had not been worth the price. A further 35% said they had eaten unhealthy food, and Subway also reported that 70% of U.S. consumers regularly skipped lunch at least once a week.

Big Village conducted the online omnibus study among 1,010 U.S. adults aged 18 or older from September 25-28, 2026. According to the methodology supplied by Subway, the sample was demographically representative and the final results were weighted to represent the total U.S. population.

Extension of September brand platform

Feed Your SUBconscious features actor and comedian Will Arnett as an inner voice encouraging consumers to choose Subway. The Halloween activity carries that concept into a promotion centred on what customers might choose after an unsatisfactory lunch elsewhere.

“We make sandwiches, not time machines. But we can give people something to look forward to at their next lunch,” said Jeff Klein, Subway’s chief marketing officer. Klein described the wider platform as an invitation for consumers to listen to their preferences when choosing food.

The promotion opens at 12:00 p.m. ET on 10/12/26 and closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on 10/16/26. Consumers can submit their lunch experiences and consult the full giveaway terms at LunchtimeHorrors.com.
