Hilton has appointed Jeff Moore as executive vice president and chief technology officer, with responsibility for its global technology organisation from 26 October. Moore joins from Uber and will report to Hilton president and chief executive Chris Nassetta, while also becoming a member of the company’s Executive Committee.

The appointment supports Hilton’s strategy of combining employee-led hospitality with technology platforms, including artificial intelligence. For hotel owners and operators, the company links that work to greater efficiency and profitability, alongside its ability to offer more personalised guest services.

At Uber, Moore served as vice president of software engineering and managed a global team of 2,500 engineers. His responsibilities included technology supporting Uber Eats, Uber for Business and the company’s growth and marketing activities.

AI and digital services shape the remit

Nassetta said Moore’s technical background, operational experience and customer focus would help Hilton accelerate its work with AI and other emerging technologies. He presented the appointment as part of the company’s continuing use of technology to improve hospitality and guest stays.

Hilton pointed to AI-powered trip planning among its new product offerings, designed to connect the stages between searching for travel and staying at a hotel. It also said its modernised technology platform enables guest-facing services, such as personalised digital messaging, to be scaled rapidly.

The company said these developments support both owner returns and customised experiences for guests at scale. That places the technology leadership role alongside stated operational and commercial objectives, as well as the development of new digital products.

Moore said Hilton’s brands, global reach and reputation had attracted him to the role. He also highlighted the company’s ambition to apply AI and emerging technology to guest experiences and to support employees.

Experience across delivery, devices and operations

Moore has more than 20 years of experience managing technology, engineering, product and operations teams internationally, according to Hilton. His broader Uber remit included engineering for Uber for Merchant, Uber Direct, Uber Courier, Uber Advertising and Applied AI.

Before joining Uber, Moore held several leadership positions at Amazon.com, including a founding leadership role within Fulfillment by Amazon. He subsequently managed engineering and product teams working on Amazon devices, covering Kindle, Fire TV, Fire Tablet and Echo/Alexa products.

Earlier roles at Anheuser-Busch covered software engineering and operations leadership. Moore also holds three issued US patents and sits on the board of Edmund Optics.

On taking up the Hilton post, Moore will work with Nassetta and the wider leadership team on the company’s technology agenda. He said that collaboration would focus on the next phase of innovation at Hilton.
